The Roving Richards

A family on the move

Tulum

Thursday, July 2, 2009

There was a turtle nest on the beach this morning whichwas very cool! After breakfast the kids went to kids club and Mark and I packed up the room and read by the pool. The kids said goodbye to Paola, ate a quick lunch at the snack bar and we left for Tulum. Tulum is only about a half hour south so we got there easily. We found our hotel, Los Lirios, and checked in. The room was nice and Mark immediately had to lie down as he was not feeling well. The girls and I checked out the hammock and then walked along the beach for a while.  What a beautiful beach, but it was obvious from walking along it that this was more of a couples place than Akumal. We saw some topless women which shocked Genevieve a bit (which I thought was funny, this girl thinks nothing of running around the house buck naked!). We went back to the room and Mark was feeling enough better that we could make a run for the Tulum ruins. We got there at 4:00 and they close at 5:00 so we hopped on the tram that takes you to the entrance and Genevieve and I split off from whiney Charlotte and sick Mark to see what we could see. It is a beautiful site, that’s for sure. We hooked back up with Mark and Charlotte and got pictures of the whole gang, saw a lot of iguanas (they actually eat grass, who knew?) and then took one of the last trams back to our car, after a brief stop for an ice cream. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant because it was included, not that Mark ate much! The chicken (pounded flat in the Yucatecan way) was actually pretty good.
