We had to get up bright and early to get Genevieve to the Palermo airport for her trip back home to start her internship at Wing, a Google subsidiary. The fine hosts at the B & B Templi e Arte got up super early to make us breakfast which was so very nice of them. The drive to the Palermo airport was uneventful and we sent Genevieve off and then drove to the city of Palermo to check into our hotel, the Residenza Wagner. Mark dropped Charlotte and I off and we got our luggage and checked into the hotel while Mark returned the car. The hotel is pretty nice, the rooms were large and the beds comfy. When we got there the confused Japanese tourists who were there before us were not yet checked out so we dropped our luggage and walked to meet Mark at the car rental agency. He was already on his way back so we met him on the street and went back to the hotel where our room was now ready. This hotel was in a different area of Palermo than we stayed before so we walked around a bit, tried to have lunch at one place but the server never ever came so we went to another which was a good choice. We liked our food and the waiter was engaging and fortunately the rain that started to fall as we dined outside stopped soon enough.
Next we went to tour the Teatro Massimo, Palermo’s opera house, to see how it stacked up to the one in Catania. Turns out opera houses are a lot like other opera houses! But still beautiful of course. We toyed with the idea of getting on Il Trenino but we couldn’t figure out how you did that even though we saw them driving around, so we just walked around a bit near the waterfront. Then we called it an early night so we’d be ready to get to the airport in the morning.
