The Roving Richards

A family on the move

Monte Carlo

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Today we got up to get on our very cheap 1 euro bus to Monte Carlo. The girls and I had seen the stop close to the Place Massena, on the other side of this huge parking structure they were in the process of tearing down to turn into a park area. The bus went along the coast through many of the towns perched on the waterfront, providing nice views. We got to Monte Carlo around an hour later, and walked up the slope to the palace. We toured the palace (the girls are now fascinated by Grace Kelly) and then watched the changing of the guard. Afterwards we walked around the town  and looked for a place to have lunch.  We found a likely establishment with a nice outside dining area and unfortunately crazy slow service. Once the food finally arrived it was good, at least. I was amused at the young French boy checking Genevieve out while he ate his lunch!  Next, we toured the aquarium and museum, okay enough but both the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the California Academy of Sciences are better. Then we walked the long walk to the  casino! It was very crowded around the casino and of course we couldn’t go in, so we just snapped a few photos and then got on the bus for the return journey. We had pizza for dinner at a restaurant Charlotte wanted to try and then went back to the old town where we stopped at another candy store and the kids bought more chocolate and fruit jellies.
