The Roving Richards

A family on the move

Trip to Costa Rica 2005

Friday, July 15, 2005

Our cab arrived promptly at 7:30 for our 9:30 flight.  We got the carseats installed and the luggage and stroller in with a minimum of hassle.  The checkin for the airport went as smoothly as could be expected, and we even had time to visit the gift shop where the kids each got a flower and turtle purse respectively.  The flight to Dallas was on time but once we arrived we weren’t able to deplane because lightning had caused them to close all of the gates.  We did finally get off of that plane, and went and had lunch at TGI Fridays (not good) and got to our gate.  This time again they were repeatedly closing the gates because of the lightning, and then we had to change runways and three hours later I thought for sure they were going to return us to the terminal but we did take off.  Once we got to Costa Rica we had no problems getting our luggage and getting through customs.  I was so proud of myself for finding an ATM and getting Costa Rican money until I discovered that what I had withdrawn was about $10.83.  And for that I paid a $3.50 service charge!  The driver from Xandari was still waiting for us, so we loaded up and got to our place.  Man, I just love Xandari.  The people who run it also own a spa in Santa Barbara, and the place is just so restful.  I don’t know if it’s the colors they use in the decor, or the swoop in the roof of the room or what, but it is so relaxing to be there.  We got to our room, the kids were happy, and we went to bed, unfortunately one kid and one grownup in each bed (no romance on this vacation, that’s for sure!)
